I'm a wife and a mom. I started this business to allow me to stay at home since it's hard to be a part-time engineer.
I'm an active member of my church and the volunteer logistics director for Camp Arete, a Christian camp for teenagers.
I love to read, crochet, and play boardgames and card games.
Education: I have a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and from Texas A&M respectively. I'm a national merit scholar.
Career: My engineering career included time in the oil & gas industry at a refinery as a process engineer and as a process controls engineer. I also worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a transportation engineer.
Tutoring Experience: I began tutoring professionally in 2018 during grad school and have tutored over 200 students.
I specialize in test prep tutoring, specifically for the ACT, SAT, PSAT, GRE, ISEE, etc.
I also tutor jr high and high school math (pre-algebra, algebra, algebra 2, geometry, pre-cal/trig)
as well as jr high and high school science (biology, chemistry, physics).
I see tutoring to prepare for a test as a project to manage. The student will take practice tests and we'll go over every question they missed. This naturally focuses us on the problem areas and lets us skip what they alreapdy understand. We'll work on pacing, when to skip problems and come back to them, how to effectively use their calculators, both the included calculator (Desmos) and their handheld ones and other strategies. We'll track the student's progress by scoring their practice tests and make adjustments to timing strategies if needed.
I see tutoring for specific subjects as a temporary fix for a kid struggling in that subject. I want them to outgrow the need for my help because they've caught up and have the tools to study and complete homework on their own.
